Головна увага приділяється різним аспектам соціального та економічного становища православних священнослужителів. Поняття "соціальний статус" інтерпретується як місце, що дає індивіду можливість впливати на суспільство і отримувати через це привілейовані позиції під час розподілу матеріальних благ. Автор звертає увагу на невідповідність реального та номінального соціального статусу парафіяльного духовенства.The article represents an attempt to analyze the correspondence between the legally declared and actually existing social status of the provincial parish clergy of the Russian Empire in the nineteenth - early twentieth century. The author pays attention to the division of the scope of application of the notion «social status» from the point of view of different contexts of life of the parish clergy. A great social mission was put on the parish clergy, which defined its important social status. Main attention is paid to various aspects of social and economic situation of Orthodox priests. The notion "social status" is interpreted as a place that gives an individual an opportunity to influence the society and obtain priviledged positions during the distribution of material values.
