Today, the issue of the creation of new energy-intensive and technically advanced tractors is topical, because it requires intensive work of both scientists and designers to get closer to Western European colleagues. The paper presents enterprises producing wheeled tractors of different capacities in Ukraine, in particular, such enterprises as the Kharkiv Tractor Plant, Slobozhansky Industrial Company, etc.. Goal. Making methodological foundations for the creation of a family of general purpose tractors by combining all stages in the design of a new tractor. The main stages in the design of general purpose tractors are the preliminary dynamic calculations, which contain a general mathematical model, as well as the proof of the prototype. Methodology. The work outlines a single methodology, which primarily aims at unifying the basic models of general purpose wheeled tractors. This methodology is based on the formation of a block-modular system of machine-tractor aggregate. Results. When outlining the methodology for the creation of new technology, it is not possible to use systematic approach in the design, which is primarily aimed at making certain mathematical models for tractor systems. Originality. The systematic approach to the design of wheeled tractors is given, due to the construction of the system division into hierarchical levels. Practical value. The practical significance of this work is to systematize the approaches that promote the creation of new tractors of general purpose.
