Abstract

Four quadrant active rectifiers with power factor correction have several advantages in comparison with diode and thyristor rectifier. They implement unity power factor, sinusoidal input current as well as bidirectional power transmission. An important component is the active rectifier control system. The majority of existing control systems are based on hysteresis modulation and pulse-width modulation. A significant drawback of hysteresis modulation is a high and variable switching frequency. The article presents the control systems of the active four quadrant rectifier based on different types of pulse-width modulation. This type of modulation has several advantages in comparison with a hysteresis modulation: setting and adjustment of the switching frequency, which leads to reduction of dynamic losses in IGBT keys and increasing of converter efficiency.
