Abstract
The article covers the problem of the innovative development needed for the railway transport that occupies one of the leading positions in the transport system. The total volume and sources of investing the scientific and technical potential have been analyzed to increase the levels of innovation and competitiveness of the national economy. The government measures to regulate the investment and innovation activities have been studied, and the relevance of investing the innovative development of the railway transport has been grounded.
