Abstract
The article analyses the designing of the priest's image on the materials of Ukrainian folklore in the XIX-early XX century. On the materials of proverbs the image of the priest represents peculiar "anti-portrait". While designing this image two trends can be traced: endowing the priest with negative personality traits and rejection of certain elements in parish community practice.
