In the article is generated the definition of competitive potential, which isdescribed as ability of enterprise and its system of management in good time and can form the fully balanced complex of competitive advantages on supplying of steady strategic development of the enterprise, its competitiveness and ability of adaptation to quick changingoperating conditions on the market. On the basis of generalizing of the approaches of scientists on structuration of components of the potential by its components are determined trained, innovative, organizationally-managerial, technician-technological, information and financial-investment components. Among the functions of management of competitive potential attention to processes of monitoring of its formation and development is paid. It is determined that in the base of formation and development of competitive potential the common and specific principles are.General principles of forming and development of competitive potential are principles of the system, optimality, continuity of balanced, efficiency, adaptivity, plenitude.Expediency of grouping the specific principles of formation and development of competitive potential by its components is recognised.To the list of the main specific principles are related: orientation to achievement of strategic development purposes, self-development and orientation to consumer, general quality management, equilibrium of organizational structures of management, flexibility of innovative politics, innovative adaptation and susceptibility, progressiveness of technician-technological development, social responsibility, high-qualification and competence of the personnel.
