Abstract
The traction rolling stock used in industrial railway transport is considered, the necessity and directions of its renewal are substantiated. It is shown that the traction properties of a locomotive depend on the type of wheelset drive. The designs of locomotive wheelset drives with individual and group drives are considered. An analysis of different types of wheelset drives is proposed and performed according to the criteria that determine their properties and characteristics. The following criteria have been identified: weight and dimensions, traction and braking properties, energy efficiency, impact on the track, complexity of the drive design and technological requirements for manufacturing, maintenance and maintainability, reliability, and economic indicators.
