Abstract

The emergence of new alternative power plants (electric, hydrogen internal combustion engines, hybrid power plants, etc.), energy (batteries, flywheels) has necessitated the revision of the criteria that characterize the energy efficiency of the motor–vehicle. There was a need to broaden the concept of (operational properties) “fuel economy”, including into it not only the consumption of fuel thermal energy, but also other kinds of energy (electrical and mechanical). For a more objective assessment of energy expenditure there was proposed to use the term “energy efficiency of the motor–vehicle”. The analytical expressions that can serve as a basis for evaluating the energy efficiency of motor–vehicles, while driving in both a steady and an unsteady mode, are presented. Expression suggested, that determine the amount of energy consumption dimensional source unit and path length traversed by the power reserve of a vehicle provided with a constant velocity of movement. These expressions should be the main criteria, that characterize the energy efficiency of the car.
