Теоретико-методологічні засади пенітенціарної філософії

Abstract

The article deals with current issues of formation and development of the penal philosophy in Ukraine and abroad. Determined by the theoretical foundations and histor ical- philosophical basis of formation of the penitentiary idea and its philosophical signifi cance for the development of society and the individual. Particular attention is paid to philosophical teachings about morality, law, justice and crime as the main categories and concepts on which to base penitentiary philosophy. There is theoretical and empirical support for the conclusion that the rehabilitation programs that achieve the greatest reductions in recidivism use cognitive-behavioral treatments, target known predictors of crime for change, and intervene mainly with high-risk offenders. The prospects for an evidencebased form of corrections will depend on the view that rehabilitation should be reaffirmed as a central goal of the correctional enterprise.
