Урбанізація та її вплив на формування і трансформацію топонімічної мапи Харкова у другій половині ХХ століття

Abstract

The impact of urbanization processes on the expansion of the city and changes in the toponymy of Kharkiv in the second half of the 20th century are analyzed in the article by the author. Special attention is given to the reforming of a city toponymy in the post-war period when an inverse transformation of Kharkiv urban map takes place. A number of streets and squares were returned their historical names. Changes of a toponymic map of Kharkiv as a result of the processes connected with the overcoming of Joseph Stalin’s cult of personality are examined. On the basis of archival materials studying, the author proves for the first time the change in emphasis at the nomination of toponyms from the theme of theOctober Revolution to the sacralization of the memory of the Great Patriotic War. The creation of new urban districts from the point of their street and road network formation and a toponymic registration is described in the article. The attention is given to changes of a toponymic map of the territories joined to the city.
