Abstract
When designing and operating any electric power system (EPS), it is necessary to account for the possibility of faults and abnormal operating conditions. Such conditions can lead to system accidents, resulting in power outages, deterioration of power quality, or even damage to essential components of the electrical infrastructure. In most cases, the progression of these accidents can be interrupted by promptly disconnecting the faulty section of the power network using specialized automatic devices known as relay protection (RP) systems. Ensuring the uninterrupted operation of EPS and the reliability of power supply systems depends directly on the technical level and dependability of relay protection and automation (RPA) devices. The primary requirements for such systems include reliability, high-speed response, selectivity, and sensitivity.
