The research is aimed at finding ways of self-management of the process of subject competence development in e-learning conditions. The methodology includes the analysis of self-management opportunities in existing e-courses in the context of requirements for a student-centred training, focused on developing professional and general competences; creating a system of self-management of e-learning; approbating the system within the educational experiment in the conditions of natural learning in higher educational establishments with measurement of such indicators as speed, completeness and accuracy of tasks completion; processing the obtained data by the correlation and factor analysis method with further interpretation in the context of the research aims; and developing practical recommendations. The article presents the results of creating a system of self-management of the subject competence development process within e-learning. The collected data indicate the need for a systematic approach to self-management which involves the formation of metacognitive competence, including knowledge about cognition, about oneself, and about the subject, and also provides support in the form of tutorials with the possibility of receiving constant feedback and a set of tools for measuring the learning effectiveness. In conclusion, it is noted that with such a multifunctional system within e-learning, effective self-management is possible not only in the process of subject competence development, but also student’s personal self-development.
