These methodological guidance is intended for student’s self-studying organization while studying discipline “Theory of Systems in Ecology” and also describe how to do individual task at high level. Self-studying, which involves studying without direct supervision or attendance in a classroom, is a valuable way to learn more and get deep knowledge is any discipline. Systems theory and system analysis are essential for understanding the complex relationships and patterns of interaction among all components of the environment as part of ecological systems of different structural and functional levels of the biosphere organization. The general system approach allows to study various interdisciplinary ecological problems, reveal their system-synergistic bases and connections, and solve specific ecologically oriented tasks using theoretical, methodological and practical tools of system analysis. System analysis is the practice of applying the basics of systems theory to investigate properties of systems, their classification, energy balance, biological productivity, natural dynamics, evolution, feedback mechanisms, resilience, thresholds, mathematical modeling and other key aspects of ecological processes. To know how to apply systems theory and system analysis is important for comprehensive understanding of ecological systems, their stability, self-regulation and response to anthropogenic impacts. Self-studying and individual task help students in discipline “Theory of Systems in Ecology” better and deeper understand the principles of systems thinking, develop practical skills in modeling and analysis of ecological systems, and apply them to real environmental problems, especially in the context of sustainable development and biosphere protection.
