Abstract

This book is devoted to the history of mining engineering and underground construction in the area of Ukraine and Poland. Here is described the outstanding memorials of mining engineering and historical underground structures, the origins of industrial production of mineral resources were examined as well as the development of the most famous mining industrial regions. It was presented historical, geological, mining-engineering information, and the examples of ancient mining technologies were shown. It is told about the present-day situation, experience of renovation and museum-creation of the ancient mines and underground structures. While preparing the material of this book the authors had visited the mine structures described, had studied found artifacts, and took part in scientific researches of separate objects. For specialists concerning mining engineering, wide audience of engineers and technical specialists dealing with mine production industry, students and everybody who is interested in the history of engineering and underground structures.
