The integrated model of the Italian Basket Federation as a method for the development of young athletes

Abstract

The integrated teaching model of the Italian Basketball Federation (Federazione Italiana Pallacanestro – FIP) is presented and analyzed in all its components as a possible solution to several challenges faced by the new generation of young athletes. An appropriate approach to the athletes’ psychological dimension is examined as a way to address early sport dropout during adolescence as well as the poor management of mistakes and competitive emotions. The methods related to the physical component are discussed as a possible response to the ongoing declining motor skills among children and adolescents, especially following the global COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the technical methodology aims to increase the percentage of effective training time young athlete experiences during each session.
