Design of Diagnostic Programs for Computer Systems and Networks. Practicum

Abstract

This workshop is a laboratory manual for Master's students studying computer engineering. It is covering fundamental and applied aspects of the design of diagnostic programs. The course shifts emphasis from the use of ready-made utilities to the independent development and automation of diagnostic tools. The workshop covers a full cycle of diagnostics: from software data collection from hardware components (Central Processing Unit (CPU), memory, drives) to analysis for the state of network services, operating systems and application performance. The course structure (16 or 8 integrated laboratory exercises) is built logically: from basic scripts to the design of client-server architectures. The final project is the creation of a comprehensive information and analytics system, which includes collection of telemetry and its visualization in an integrated web panel.
