Abstract

The article considers important aspects of the emergence of women's higher education in the Russian Empire, especially in Ukraine. During the XVIII – XIX centuries the country's leadership, government officials and professors have developed a negative attitude towards the spread of higher technical education among women. But despite all these circumstances, progressive professors, scientists had opened the first women's higher courses and the Women's Polytechnic Institute in largest cities of the Russian Empire, and in particular in Kharkiv.
