    Fem analysis of the burnishing process of X5CrNi18-10 stainless steel

    The burnishing process can improve the surface roughness of machined parts, while having an advantageous effect on the properties of the layer below the surface. In this paper the effect of the surface speed, the feed rate and pressing force are analysed with Finite Element Method. The affected width and depth were analysed during one pass of the burnishing tool. We also examined the highest pressure and the stress distribution of the surface layer. The values of the studied parameters were chosen according to the “Design of Experiments” method. Equations determining the studied properties were also given.

    Theoretical value and experimental study of arithmetic mean deviation in rotational turning

    The calculation method of the Arithmetic Mean Deviation (Ra) is presented for rotational turning. The necessary equations for the calculation of Ra are given beginning from the equation of the cut surface theoretical profile, and we determine the theoretical values in the studied range of the technological parameters. Cutting experiments with these data were performed and the roughness values of the machined surfaces were measured. Then we carried out a comparative analysis of the measured and the calculated values ofthe arithmetic mean deviation.

    The effect of the circular feed on the surface roughness and the machining time

    The surface roughness is analysed in different feeds and turning procedures (rotational and conventional) in this paper. Cutting experiments were made on different cutting speeds and feed rates with 2 cutting tool with helical edge geometry and 1 traditional turning tool. The measured 2D surface roughness values were compared between the different cutting tools. The benefit of the circular feed application is showed by the decrease of roughness parameters and machining time.

    Components of the cutting force and their specific values at different feeds in rotational turning

    The alteration of the cutting force is studied by the increase of the feed in rotational turning. The time course of the cutting force components is analysed by experiments done with different edge-geometrical tools, and the specific cutting forces are calculated. One of the findings is the possibility to effectively lower the passive force acting on the cutting tool by the application of rotational turning.

    Surface quality of honed bores as a function of pressure force

    The effect of the pressure force and tool material structure on the surface roughness and straightness of honed bores is studied in this paper. We measured the vertical straightness, the arithmetic average and the maximum height of the roughness profile in our experiments, which contained 9 setups. We compared the registered profiles from the measuring devices in addition to the values of the three quality parameters.

    Comparative analysis of hard machined bores based on the roughness and accuracy

    The results of a comparative study on the machining of hard machined surfaces are presented in this paper. We compared the surface roughness, roundness and cylindricity errors of bores machined by grinding, hard turning and a combined procedure. Based on the results we ranked the studied procedures to help in decision making in process planning.

    Chip removal characteristics with constant chip cross-sectional area and different ap/fz ratios in face milling

    A main development direction in production engineering is the of the enhancement productivity of machining procedures among the increasing of the accuracy and the improvement of surface quality. Since the sizes of blanks are getting closer to the final prescribed dimensions of the parts, the depth of cut and/or the number of passes decreases. Therefore, the improved productivity in face milling can be achieved by the increase of the cutting speed and/or the feed rate values. Due to the spread use of high speed milling procedures the possibilities in the cutting speed increase are more or less applied, so the study of feed rate intensification came into view.
